I was surprised to find that changing the video device from VNC to Spice leaving everything else unchanged caused the audio to start working. Comment 29 Victor Toso Comment 17 Aaron Lu I don’t think that will work, I may be wrong but I would think that sending the signals over the LAN would add more latency not decrease it, the signals still have to be processed by the same card and then sent across the network, the network would in theory would have more bandwidth but also has other traffic to prioritize and if your also sharing a NIC between the host and guest it will have plenty to do without the added load of the audio signal I use headphones for gaming. I think this can be verified after you launched the guest with ‘ps ax’ and check what exactly the cmdline options are passed to qemu. Next job is to get Looking Glass working so I don’t need to switch inputs and hopefully Windows will be relegated to just an app on my Linux box.
If you think about how shared hardware works in a KVM it’s pushing things to share a keyboard or mouse although both are very doable, but when it comes to a device like a NIC or SC it’s going to cause problems with either the host or guest or both, when I shared a NIC between both it worked but latency made playing a on-line game like WOW or GW2 almost impossible.
Add spice server via virtmanager GUI Adding the spice server adds actually several devices to the VM config, one for example is an display.
I tried lots of different virtual sound cards on the VM. In this post, I compare several options of how to get the sound output from an KVM virtual machine guest, back into the host. So, secondly, I removed the above additions, and added the playback compression inside the graphics tags.
Still interested on whether it should work with VNC. Comment 4 Aaron Lu Durch Deinen Besuch stimmst Du dem zu. Well i had the sound issues before but i just wanted to test it out for this post and i was surprised i couldn’t find the bug.
Note You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug. When I start the VM the ps line jch6 I considered that but I like solving problems more than spending money.
In any case – harmonize sample rates
Recorded sound from microphone has wrong sampling rate. Full cmdline used with vinagre: As a result we are closing this bug. A fair note about audio: I’ve been playing Far Cry 5 on baremetal Windows and the sound is awesome through the Realtek HD audio on my motherboard, especially with the headphone virtualization.
What am I missing?
– Windows7 guest sound quality is bad
Is there something else I need to do to get the sound to work? Comment 21 Aaron Lu The sound is not as continuous as before with some noise from time to time. Its like somthing got fixed in Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release’s lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events.
Comment 9 Aaron Lu One of the most common uses of vfio is setting up a virtual machine with full access to a dedicated GPU.
For the NIC you need to make a bridge interface to create a virtbr device to use as a NIC instead of the standard Eth0 port, if you just redirect the port itself it will be removed from the host system and given to the slave device. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 27 is end of jvm. Sound input is OK with no microphone issues noticed in idh6 Skype test call or in conversations with others.
Replace default sound manager in settings?
